Throwing it back to that time...

Throwing it back to that time I went swimming in the Chatooga! It was a beautiful, crisp winter day in the north Georgia mountains!!

Reaching back into the archives once again...

Reaching back into the archives once again (we really need to go fishing!), fondly remembering wet wading Frogtown Creek and getting ice built up in the guides!!

Sebastian Fishing Museum!

It probably goes without saying that I loved the Sebastian Fishing Museum! A very informative little museum that demonstrates the historical importance of commercial and recreational fishing in central Florida and, specifically, the Sebastian Inlet. Not a single fly in the place, so I guess that means we flyfishers in the area are making history!

More exploring!

More exploring of our new home today. This time we made it over to Blue Spring State Park in Orange City. Such an incredible thing to see, the water was crystal clear with a blue/green tint. You could see schools of 2 and 3 foot gar, large catfish and bass swimming by and we were even priviledged with sighting a small pod of manatees with calves! Unfortunately, fishing isn't allowed along the spring run and there's no room for a back cast along the main river. Definitely a natural wonder!

Gorgeous Weekend Ahead!

It looks like we've got a gorgeous weekend ahead. We're going to try to get on the water and hopefully fool a fish into eating a fly! Hope to see you out there!!

Cast the Grass

Took the old Reelwood Bamboo flyrod to a local park pond for some exercise tonight. Nothing biting, but it was sure nice to cast the grass rod again.

There used to be a sand dune...

We walked the beach to check out the damage after Hurricane Matthew. Where I stood to take this picture there used to be an 8' tall sand dune. And, notice some of the posts for the boardwalk don't actually touch the sand anymore. Mother Nature will rebuild, just have to give her time.

I never miss an opportunity to visit a new flyshop!

I never miss an opportunity to visit a new flyshop and hurricane evacuation is a fantastic opportunity! Tonight I stopped in to Tallahassee's Cape Harbor Outfitters and met the manager Lauren. If you're in the area check them out, it's a great little shop with a passionate and knowledgeable staff. They were even kind enough to donate some stickers to the upcoming giveaway!!

GSU Grass Carp

My dad sent me this picture today with the caption "GSU Grass Carp". I'm not sure if that means they're catching them, stocking them or shocking them, but it's not often you see a net full of them!!! UPDATE:
Dad said they were being stocked in the ponds on campus to keep the vegetation under control.  SO, if you're a student at GSU (and it's allowed, better check!) get out the fly rod and give carp fishing a shot!!

Styrofoam is Forever.

I know we get our flies caught in the trees sometimes, but the feathers will eventually decompose and the (non-stainless) hooks will rust away. But, styrofoam is forever. Please, try to leave the outdoors a little cleaner than you found it.

A little reminiscing...

A little reminiscing tonight on these bluegill bruisers from back in the spring! I thought this guy would be the end of my TFO Half Weight. But, as you can see, the Half Weight won!!

Wish I'd been there to shake his hand!

Wish I'd been there to shake his hand! My buddy David, @simichiamodavide, pulled a trophy out of the Chattahoochee River yesterday while fishing with Chris Scalley from @river_through_atlanta. David's been working the river hard and all that time invested definitely paid off!! ・・・ After months of putting in hours on my beloved tail water, waking up at 5 am to fish before work, countless Chattahoochee baptisms, cut hands from tying streamers for big fish, bottles of Advil, packs of ice, and who knows how many flies sacrificed to river bottom I was lucky enough to hook into a 27 inch brown trout in a River through Atlanta boat with Chris Scalley! I feel so lucky to not only have caught a beautiful fish but to have done so in a boat with Chris, a master of the river, friend, and mentor.

Bank Lunch

We had an excellent lunch today on the banks of the Tomoka River!!! This would be an incredible spot for the kayaks, but the signs warning of alligators put us off the idea. Perhaps we need to think about getting a skiff for next year!!

What's your favorite inshore saltwater fly?

What's your favorite inshore saltwater fly? No fishing until I'm officially a Florida resident, so I'll work on filling a saltwater fly box in the mean time.

New Hardy Sirrus Sintrix fiberglass Rod

I've gotten some questions about the new Hardy Sirrus Sintrix fiberglass rods. I believe it's due out in September. Here's what Hardy says about it: "Sirrus Glass rods are a range of super smooth, deep loading fly rods bringing the advantages of SINTRIX® technology to a classic rod range. Perfectly suited to short range presentations on small streams and creeks the Sirrus range also features incredible impact resistance and an ability to "Self load" at the closest distances." I can totally agree with that! The short cast accuracy was really impressive as was the ability to load for a shorter cast. It'll be available from a 6' 2 weight through an 8' 5 weight!! Shoot me a message if you have any more questions and I'll see about getting them answered!!

Fishing a Hardy fiberglass rod...

Fishing a Hardy Sirrus Sintrix Glass fiberglass rod on a Ritz-Carlton golf course in front of a J. W. Marriott hotel was a bit surreal! But check out how that 'glass bends!!!
