MCFF Tying Night -- 17 March 2025

Tying Night at MCFF saw Bob Dillon leading us with his interpretation of the late Bob Popovic's Hollow Fly that he dubbed the Spye! As per usual, mine was tied far too heavy, but this is a great technique that's open to lots of customization to suit your fishery! Tying Night is the 3rd Monday of each month! All are welcome, and as always, I'll be glad to save you a seat!

MCFF meets the 2nd and 3rd Monday of every month. As always, all are welcome and I'll be glad to save you a seat!!

Thanksgiving Day 2024

Thanksgiving afternoon made for a stunningly beautiful time to throw poppers on a pond! Hooked up a nice little bass, that was the icing on the cake!

MCFF Meeting -- 11 November 2024

Tonight's Mid Coast Fly Fishers meeting featured former club president, and current FOP Lodge liaison, Mark Patterson, who presented the club with a thank you letter for the members who helped clean up the lodge property after this year's hurricanes, and also to relay stories of the early days of MCFF, a fly pattern design credited to members of the club and to show his amazing rodbuilding handiwork! Another great meeting in the books, so I hope you'll join us for the next one! Second and third Monday of each month. All are welcome, and I'll be glad to save you a seat!

MCFF Tying Meeting -- 17 June 2024

At tonight's MCFF Tying Meeting, the club's own Bob Dillon once again led the tyers with some variations on the classic Gartside Gurgler! Tying in bucktail, palmering hackel and working with foam are some of the foundation skills that are always good to practice! The MCFF Tying Meeting is the third Monday of every month, and, as always, all are welcome. I'll be glad to save you a seat!

Tonight's MCFF Fly Tying meeting was presented al-fresco! Carl Sanders walked everyone through tying the Simpson's Shrimp, which utilizes an inverted tying technique, working from the eye to the bend. Lots of learning tonight! As always, all are welcome, and I'll be glad to save you seat!

MCFF Tying Night -- 21 Aug 23

A great night of fly tying and camaraderie at MCFF as Carl Sanders demonstrated 5 different ways (and a couple variations) to add a weed guard and tail support  to our flies. After the demo he led the membership, new and tenured, in tying a simple Crystal Schminnow in which each tier added the weed guard technique of their choice! Many thanks to Carl for taking on the fly tying leadership role and the monumental task of reorganizing the club's tying materials and tools!! As always, all are welcome and I'll be glad to save you a seat!

MCFF Fly Tying Night -- 19 June 2023

Mid-Coast Fly Fisher's monthly fly tying meeting had a great group of varied skill-level tiers working on some new techniques with the Po Boy fly as tied by Carl Sanders. Consisting of craft fur with backing, rubber legs and dubbing brush tied to a jig hook with a barbel eye, should make for very lifelike movement in the waters of Central Florida! As always, all are welcome and I'll be glad to save a seat for you!!

MCFF Fly Tying Night - 15 May 2023

Another great night of casting practice and fly tying with the Mid-Coast Fly Fishers! Capt. Frank Brownell shared his interpretation of a classic Gurgler which demonstrated multiple techniques like dealing with bucktail, stacking thread, wrapping chenille, and, most notably, introduces folks to tying flies with craft foam! As always all are welcome and I'll be glad to save a seat for you!

Mid Coast Fly Fishers - 8 May 2023

It was a beautiful evening for casting practice on the lawn at tonight's Mid Coast Fly Fishers meeting! Our speaker was under the weather, so our meeting instead consisted of fishing reports and local news from the membership, but that always makes for a fun and informative night! There's always room for more, and all are welcome. I'll be glad to save you a seat!

MCFF Fly Tying Night - 17 April 2023

We had a great turnout at tonight's MCFF Fly Tying Night! Carl Sanders led the group in tying one of club president Capt. Dick Withey's favorite crab patterns! This fly was a challenge even for our seasoned tyers, but, I'm proud to say, we had several beginners that toughed it out and tied this crab as their first fly!! We have a Tying Night the third Monday of every month and we're always happy to help folks learn a new pattern or introduce beginners to the passion of fly tying! I'll be glad to save a seat for you!

Mid-Coast Fly Fishers - 10 April 2023

Little lighter crowd at tonight's Mid-Coast Fly Fishers meeting, presumably due to the inclement weather. Learning great news for the future of the club, some fantastic Captains' reports and, despite the rain, we had three new casters (and potential new members!!) receiving some casting instruction on the lawn!

MCFF Tying Meeting - January 2020

Tonight's MCFF Tying Meeting featured a Zonker Minnow demonstrated by Phil Ewaniciki. Phil explained the basic techniques required to tie this simple fly, then went on to describe a few of the many variations possible with different tail materials and different cuts of the rabbit strips. It was a fun tie tonight and I'll be adding a few more of these (and some variants) to my flyboxes!

Redfish Seaducer

Trying to recreate a fly I saw on Pinterest. They called it a Redfish Seaducer. The Seaducer is one of my favorite saltwater flies to tie and fish, so I'm hoping this variation will be successful!
