Another great night of fly tying at Mid-Coast Flyfishers! Bob Dillon coached us through the challenging tie of Bill Bishop's Tarpon Mouse. Featuring a rabbit zonker tail supported by 80lb flouro, hackle feathers and spun deerhair! I went with the classic red and white, but black and purple is the more popular combo for our waters. MCFF Tying Night -- 16 June 2025
Not totally sure mine turned out 100%, but the St. Simon Scampi was a fun tie at tonight's MCFF Tying Night! Flash, rubber legs, crystal chenille and plastic beadchain all topped off with a rabbit zonker strip will make for a fly with great light manipulation and some amazing movement in the water!

At tonight's MCFF Tying Night, we took a shot at Stu Apte's Black Death! Under the direction of our new club treasurer Guy, this was a fairly easy pattern to tie, but required a few techniques and several different materials! Fun tie and a great looking tarpon fly!

Great turnout at tonight's MCFF Tying Night! Capt. Frank Brownell started us out with a presentation on the Eyes on Seagrass grass tracking app to fulfill an assignment for his Master Naturalist studies. Then, Bob Dillon led the tyers in tying one of his amazing flies, the BD Shrimpoon!!

Tying Night at MCFF saw Bob Dillon leading us with his interpretation of the late Bob Popovic's Hollow Fly that he dubbed the Spye! MCFF Open House 2025
Wonderful day for the Mid-Coast Fly Fishers' annual open house! Huge thanks to all who came out and made it an excellent event! The morning started out on the cool side, so hot coffee was definitely required! Thanks, too, to the vendors who joined us! Floyd Skiffs, RCI Optics, Cortland and Riverside Conservancy. Always so much fun to share a meal and the passion for fly fishing with so many great folks! I clearly didn't take enough pictures, but I'm proud and thankful for how well the day went! Come out and join us next year, it promises to be bigger and better yet! MCFF meets the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month, plus Saturday Casting Practice! All are welcome and, as always, I'll be glad to save you a seat.

MCFF Meeting -- 11 November 2024
Tonight's Mid Coast Fly Fishers meeting featured former club president, and current FOP Lodge liaison, Mark Patterson, who presented the club with a thank you letter for the members who helped clean up the lodge property after this year's hurricanes, and also to relay stories of the early days of MCFF, a fly pattern design credited to members of the club and to show his amazing rodbuilding handiwork! Another great meeting in the books, so I hope you'll join us for the next one! Second and third Monday of each month. All are welcome, and I'll be glad to save you a seat!

I was able to catch the last few minutes of Capt. Michael Mauri's presentation Adventures Along The Treasure Coast and Indian River Lagoon. I hope he repeats the presentation again this weekend, because he certainly made it sound exciting!

Karin Miller of Zen Tenkara gave a very informative talk on fishing for big fish with a tenkara rod! The insightful tips she gave can easily be implemented in both tenkara and traditional fly fishing situations. Can you imagine catching tarpon and bonefish on a tenkara rod? I'd sure like to give it a try!
Day 2 of the 2023 The Fly Fishing Show Atlanta is well underway!
Always fun checking out the Seigler Reels booth! These reels evolve with time and it's always fascinating to learn about all the small improvements.
Luong Tam of Tenkara Tanuki gave a great presentation on the Fundamentals of Tenkara Casting on Pond 1 this morning!

Cristian Rodriguez of Fly Fishing The Run gave an excellent presentation on his fly fishing operations in Cuba! With two resort bases and a liveaboard yacht, they have plenty of lodging available, but through environmental partnerships and government assigned waters, they choose not to increase accommodations to preserve the state of the fishery!
Took in the Fly Fishing North Georgia and Beyond presentation with Andy Bowen of Cohutta Fishing Co. He gave examples of some the excellent fly fishing that North Georgia has to offer, then went into some of the travel packages through the fly shop to extend your fly fishing, literally, around the world!

I was able to catch Chris Scalley's presentation, 30 Years of Guiding And Advocating On The Chattahoochee River Tailwater, first thing this morning. It was great to catch up with him in the booth, and my good friend and fly tyer to the stars David Aviles! The 'Hooch knowledge flowing in this booth is overwhelming!
Made it by the On The Fly South booth to get my autographed copy of Jimmy Jacobs and Polly Dean's new book, The Angler's Guide To Georgia State Parks! I'm really looking forward to reading this one and will post a review on TheSuburbanAngler.com real soon!
