Tampa Bay On The Fly
While in Tampa, I had to seek out a fly shop and Tampa Bay On The Fly inside the Minnows & Monsters tackle shop is top notch!! They've got a fantastic fly tying section (with weekly tying classes!) and a growing assortment of rods, reels and gear. I hope to come back and visit again someday, but I really look forward to seeing them at IFTD in a couple months! If you're in the area stop by and tell them I sent you!

are You still checking Ngto?ReplyDelete
I check in on occasion, but I'm not as active as I used to be anymore. Is there something I missed that I should look at?Delete
Want to refer you to a dade city shopReplyDelete
Please do! I'm always on the hunt for a new fly shop. Thanks!ReplyDelete
Fly shop is called Swann's flyshop. No webpage, but the shop is awesome. One man operation with tons of flies that he must tie all day. Mostly warmwater. Anytime I go in I am usually an hour plus. I bought a TFO pro from him three years ago, he through in a preloaded line, some flies and lots of good advice for $200. As far as NGTO, was more curious since the number of posts are dwindling, and most of the old posters have seemed to be hibernating for the last 9 months.Delete
Sounds like a great shop! Glad it was a good experience for you. I'll make a note of it and the next time I'm in that area I'll be sure to stop in. Thanks for the tip! I logged back in to NGTO after hearing from you, and there does seem to be some changes, and, definitely, a lull in posts. That's unfortunate. NGTO helped me out a lot when I first got started and I've made some great friends because of it. It was far more welcoming to me back then than GON ever was, but it seems like the two have swapped places. Perhaps NGTO just needs an infusion of positive energy and good old fashioned mentor-ship to make the pendulum swing back to where it should be. I've been hesitant to post since moving to Florida, but I might try to make more of an effort. Are you still active on the boards?Delete
I think that we both started fly fishing about the same time, and I don't post often since I live over here on the west coast and don't think there is that much interest in dry dropping bluegills. I love it though, and really helped my technique for when I do get to head to the mountains a couple of times a year. In fact, I was going to get a guide this summer, but after a couple of days catching trout on the flies I tied and decided to just keep at it. The message board really had lots of great advice! I post under jrpc16.Delete
Sure! I remember your handle!! I'm in the same boat, I fished a lot more in Georgia than here and I rarely get to go back for trout. I love catching bluegill on flies, so you'll get no guff from me on that subject!! I don't feel like I have much to contribute to the forum any more, so I tend to shy away. I did participate in one of Steve Hudson's Bream Fly Swaps since moving down here, but that's been about it. There are some really fantastic guides in north Georgia, but if you were successful catching trout on your own flies, I'd just stick with that! I'm hoping to get back up there this fall, so I'm sure I'll be checking NGTO for some intel then. I'll keep an eye out for your handle!👍Delete
