After a few months of listening intently, I finally made my very first contacts on the radio tonight! The first was with a Parks On The Air activator in upstate New York on 20 meters, then I checked in to the Volusia County Traffic Net on 2 meters. I'm learning something new every day and looking forward to making many more contacts!
