Smokey's watching! Blue Ridge Trout Fest 2019

Smokey's watching! The US Forest Service, Chattahoochee National Forest and the Georgia Forestry Commision were on hand with lots of activity books and stickers for the children, along with a giant, inflatable Smokey Bear! I've been a fan of Smokey's all my life!

All I had with me was saltwater gear!

All I had with me was saltwater gear, but I couldn't resist making a few casts into the Upper Chattahoochee River above Helen while I was in north Georgia last week. That water was high, but crystal clear!! It was such a gorgeous day, if I didn't have previous plans, I would've head deeper into the National Forest and checked some of my old favorite spots!

Good spot!

Good spot for a pipe break and to formulate a game plan! Study the water, rocks and cover. Mentally break the stream into unique zones. Fish each zone methodically. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Probably just creek chubs

Wish I had more time here, I love exploring these beautiful places. Unfortunately, with the small window of time I had to fish, the trout were being very uncooperative. Got a few strikes, but nothing to hand. Probably just creek chubs anyway.

Beautiful day for Blue Ridge Trout Fest!!

Could not have asked for a more beautiful day for the Blue Ridge Trout Fest!! It was a great time to catch up with old friends, make some new friends and hand out some Suburban Angler stickers!! Oddly enough, no one wanted an autograph!! Mark your calendar for next year, Trout Fest really is an excellent time!

When it comes to flyfishing solo...

When it comes to flyfishing solo, I tend to be very risk averse. I've found lots of very productive looking holes on this trip, but I won't risk my neck to get at them. As much as we all love wild trout, they aren't worth it. Stay safe out there!

Here's a beautiful rainbow trout!!

My apologies for such a horrendous photo of such a beautiful fish!! My camera was deep in my sling pack and I'm still learning how to use the GoPro! But, here's a beautiful rainbow trout from the small water of the Upper Chattahoochee River.
